Kids anchored in learning well today for a better tomorrow
We began as parents seeking good preschool learning programmes to engage and develop our kids. What we found were early childhood programmes narrowly focused on specific learning areas like math, language, music, gym, etc. If only we could afford both the time and resources to send our kids to all of these...
What if there was a programme that adopted a holistic approach towards learning, that incorporated key learning areas like math, science (STEM), art, language; and that engaged kids with music, movement, and stories?
This is what Ancora Kids is about. We seek to provide all of this in a safe, warm and stimulating environment. We recognize that every child is unique and will grow and develop at their own pace. Our passionate and qualified educators will support your child’s individual learning needs. We achieve this through a play-based, progressive learning framework that offers diverse opportunities for kids to explore, discover and create. We believe in a collaborative approach in nurturing the children. And we see Ancora Kids like your extended family in providing a warm, secure and caring environment to support your little ones in their development and growth into confident, happy and kind children.
At Ancora Kids, we seek to seed in your child a joy for learning, confidence and growth, grit and kindness. Our program is for kids from ages 2 to 5, is designed to prepare your child for formal education, and is delivered by passionate and qualified educators. Classes are held in an environment that encourages participation, expression, creativity, cooperation, and inclusion. Our program is thoughtfully designed and weaves together important learning areas such as Science, Mathematics, Arts, Language, Music, Stories, and Movement.
Our passion is childhood; our desire is a well-rounded learning experience for your child.
Why Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Languages, Music, and Movement?
The Ancora Kids Preschool Program reflects our thinking and philosophy about how we might be able to fully engage your child during their time with us. We have chosen to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, Languages, Music, and Movement as these fields have grown tremendously in importance in our generation. This will only accelerate in our children’s lifetime. Our Preschool Program will expose your child to these fields, with activities intentionally designed and inspired from these fields.
Kids are naturally curious about the world around them, and Science at Ancora Kids is designed to complement their natural desire to wonder, discover, and explore through play.
Science is useful for kids when they are allowed first-hand participation. Our Science curriculum is designed with this in mind, incorporating practical activities and hands-on experiments that puts your child in the front seat for learning. This makes learning about how their world works a great experience for your child, promoting both a love for learning and for Science.
It’s never too early to begin exposing kids to math concepts. Contact with math provides good building blocks for preschool children, helping them understand basic math terminology and concepts and allowing them focus on the application of math ideas and problems when they begin formal school. This is what we aim to achieve at Ancora Kids. We aim to build fundamental age-appropriate mathematic skills such as number sense, counting, geometry–shapes, sorting, ordering and expose the children to Math language, not just in our standalone Math unit, but also through other learning units such as Sensory Play and Science
Art is much more than just a tool useful for keeping kids occupied for short periods of time – it’s a great activity that caters for curious little minds. Art provides a great space for kids to explore how different materials (often daily objects) interact with each other and through various mediums, helping kids get an understanding of how their world works.
Art allows kids to develop their fine motor skills – through the grasping of pencils, crayons, chalk, and paintbrushes; through the handling of craft scissors and glue sticks – this helps kids with writing and other tasks that require controlled movements. Art also promotes cognitive development in kids, helping them to learn and practice skills like making patterns, and even learn the basics of cause and effect – like how putting a pencil on paper makes a line, and how putting the same pencil on the wall causes mummy to get upset. Kids can develop an understanding of simple math concepts through art – concepts like size, shape, counting, and spatial reasoning. As we ask our kids questions and have them describe and share their artwork and how they created it, we are also help them develop language skills.
Art at Ancora Kids will see your child creating unique pieces using a myriad of different materials and on diverse mediums, focusing especially on the process (and less on the outcome) of how each art piece was created. These activities are guided and open-ended, and are designed to engage your child’s imagination and creativity.
Studies suggest that learning a second language improves cognitive functions like attention and concentration. Cognitive benefits aside, a good grasp of a second language also provides your child an edge in their world, one that will be more connected and in more ways than the world of today.
At Ancora Kids, we recognize that language is alive to the extent that it is used regularly and intentionally. And so we have a program with Science, Mathematics, Arts, Music, Stories, and Movement classes conducted entirely in Chinese. This is designed to provide kids exposure, instruction, and interaction to the language, regularly and for a reasonable duration.
Stories are an immensely useful tool for teaching in any field, and a great way for kids to learn. Stories are not just useful to develop literacy for your child; at Ancora kids, we use stories to convey values, beliefs, attitudes and social norms, and in turn shape your child’s view of their world. We’ve selected our stories carefully based on the themes running across our classes. Story-telling isn't just about narration; our educators use age appropriate questions and discussions to gauge understanding, and to engage your child’s thinking, emotions, and imagination.
Studies have shown that music is highly beneficial for early development. Music activates every known part of the brain, acting as a catalyst to help children learn better. Children who spent time at music did better in subjects like language, reading, and math. Further benefits include having better fine motor skills, increased brain connectivity, and even increased spatial intelligence. Music lessons at an early age encourages brain plasticity, the brain’s capacity to change and grow. And just a half-hour music lesson increases blood flow in the left hemisphere of the brain.
This explains why music is such an integral part of the curriculum at Ancora kids. Children will be exposed to different musical instruments and various genres of music to explore tempo, pitch and rhythm. Music is featured and used generously in the rest of our other classes to develop language and music appreciation
Studies have generally shown that sitting for prolonged periods is not good; Regular movement however, is highly beneficial to health. The benefits of movement aren’t just limited to physical well-being. Recent studies have shown that regular movement works wonders for the brain too, pulling in oxygen that energizes brain cells, enhances the growth of brain cells (in a process of called neurogenesis), and bringing about conditions conducive for the development of new synapses (in a process called synaptic plasticity)
We take regular movement at Ancora kids seriously, and design it as part of every class that your child participates in. In our Music and Movement Unit and our Goodbye Circle Unit, we engage your child through dance and rhythm. Movement is also integrated in other learning units especially with letter, number and shape recognition. We plan to eventually incorporate a mini-gym program to promote longer sessions of movement and exercise.
